Welcome to McKibbin's Irish Pub "West Island". McKibbin's has very quickly established itself as "The Local Pub". With 28 imported beers on tap and excellent cuisine served from noon till 3am we have also become the place to quench both thirst and hunger. As soon as you walk into the Pub the very authentic decor as well as the very warm and cozy atmosphere will overcome you. You will be suddenly be transported to Ireland in the blink of an eye.

McKibbin's has four different theme rooms to cuddle, meet with some friends or gather with a large group. The "Irish Cottage" was based on the country cottage the McKibbin family owned in Derry. The cottage has a very old and lived-in feel and is great for parties from 20-40 people.

The "Abbey Theatre" was designed to replicate the original parlor room at the very famous Abbey Theatre in Dublin. This room has a Victorian look and has all our family pictures on the walls. This room is perfect for groups of 40-60 people.

The "Titanic Room" is just that. A room dedicated to the construction and demise of the most beautiful ship ever built. This area is great for groups of 10-15 people.

We also have the very important "Snug". A snug is essentially a room that is sectioned off in such a way that you can sit amongst a large crowd while still having your own little space. Snugs are popular with writers, poets and literary types. It's perfect for reading the daily paper or recanting the day's events with friends. Every pub needs one and Great Pubs have one. This area has a capacity of 20-30. The Snug and the Abbey can be combined for parties.

We cannot forget our 3 "Cozys" which is perfect for groups of 4-6 per booth. We hope you enjoy our quaint little Pub and remember, No need to pack for this trip to Ireland.

The historic and sandstone mansion built in 1904 by one of Canada's most brilliant surgeons, Dr. Frank Richardson England, (1862-1942) and his wife, Grace Octavia Ritchie, (1868-1948) the first woman to received a degree in medicine in Quebec. Both worked at Western Hospital, which today houses the Montreal Children's Hospital. Mrs. England was perhaps even more remarkable than her husband: Valedictorian of the first class of women to graduate from McGill University in 1888, she went to study medicine at Bishop's when McGill refused to allow a woman to enter what was then a men's profession. She set up private practice on Bishop Street, campaigned for women's suffrage, legal reform and compulsory education, and was the first woman candidate fielded by the federal Liberals.

The England house was designed by Robert Findlay, the same architect responsible for the house next door at 1424 Bishop. The Dr. David Fraser Gurd Residence. "The front is of red sandstone, tastefully carved. Inside the finish is of the finest, and the house is an exceedingly comfortable one," reported the Montreal Herald. "The study and the patient's waiting room are well fitted up."

Eating and Drinking Emporium
Located in a historic turn of the century stone mansion McKibbin's has quickly developed a reputation of being Montreal's eating and drinking emporium. Situated at 1426 Bishop Street, named after the McKibbin's from Ireland.

Fighting Albert
Albert McKibbin fought with General Kitchener in Khartoum, died shortly thereafter of yellow fever on his return. His son, George, emigrated to Canada in 1912 with his family aboard the Lusitania. Ethel McKibbin, the eldest daughter, was saved by the cook during the voyage as she crawled underneath the railing.

Lusitania Torpedoed
(The Lusitania was the first passenger liner to be torpedoed by a German Submarine in World War II) The McKibbin's were due to take the Titanic but Ruth McKibbin (the youngest daughter) was ill thus postponing the trip by one week. Look around the pub for family relics.

McKibbin’s on the Main has all the warmth and atmosphere of a traditional village pub. As soon as you walk in you will be surrounded by the very essence of Ireland. The sounds and smell of the pub will immediately transport you to the Emerald Isle. As you walk through the pub you will feel as though you are taking a tour of famous landmarks in Ireland.

The most prominent are the Guinness Gates of the Dublin brewery. No, we did not steal them! It was made to 3/4 scale. Stand by the lamp post for a picture and no one will know the difference. Continue past the Gates and you will see the McKibbin Cottage. This is a small replica of the family cottage in Derry. You will see pictures and artifacts that belong to the McKibbin estate. Once inside the cottage, you will feel as though Mrs. McKibbin will walk in at any moment with a warm bowl of homemade Irish stew.

Leaving the cottage through Titanic Corner, you will notice the elaborate golden Celtic letters that proudly spell “MCKIBBINS PUB” “Est.1912”. The dark walnut bar proudly displays the longest draught coffin in Canada at a staggering 8ft in length and boasts 28 taps with room for more. You can listen to live music by great local bands every night of the week or cheer for your favorite team on our HD plasmas and big screen. Come have a Sham-Rockin time on the Main.
